What are the specific requirements for entrance into a program at EBC?

EBC has implemented a one year general track program for all incoming first year students.   This allows students the opportunity to explore their gifts, and interests within our context.   In order to gain admission to EBC students must have a High school graduation diploma (OSSD in Ontario, or its equivalent from another province or country) with a minimum average of 60%.  Required courses include ENG4U, or ENG4M or ENG4C.  Applicants not meeting these requirements may be considered for admission under other categories.  Please contact the Admissions Office for more details.

Can I transfer any of my credits to another college or university?

Because EBC is accredited by the Associate for Biblical Higher Education (ABHE), you can transfer credits from EBC to any other ABHE college in North America . Many of EBC's credits will also transfer to Christian liberal arts colleges. Some of EBC's course credits are also transferable to various universities.

Could you tell me more about your Field Education program?

We believe that practical ministry experience is a vital component of Bible College education.   Every program at EBC has a Field Education component and a designated number of Field Ed. credits to be earned as part of the program.   Field Ed. is an opportunity for students to receive hands on training with experienced mentors in a variety of settings.   Each year, EBC hosts a Field Education Fair, which provides a number of potential Field Education placements.

Are professors easily accessible and approachable?

One of EBC's greatest assets is our professors.   They are always willing to chat with you, about everything from your course work to your personal life.    We encourage you to take the time to get to know your professors, inside and outside of the classroom.  Most faculty hold office hours in the Education Centre.

The $200.00 Room Deposit is required of all resident students and is non-refundable prior to living in Residence.   $100 of this deposit functions as a damage deposit.   Upon fulfillment of your Residence Hall Agreement an inspection of your room will be completed, and should there be no damage, your deposit will be refunded to you.

Are phones provided?

No. Each room is wired for private telephone service.   Students are responsible for their own telephones and service.   A payphone is located in the lobby of the Common Lounge.

Are laundry facilities provided?

Coin operated washers and dryers are provided in a central laundry room.  Students are responsible to provide their own laundry soap, fabric softener, and loonies and quarters.

Are students required to live on-campus?

Yes.   All first year students under the age of 21 are required to live on campus, unless they live at home with their parents or guardians. However, students may apply for an exception from the Associate Dean of Student Life.   Many upper class students also choose to live on campus. The proximity, the convenience, and the ability to get and stay connected to the College and its resources are best accomplished by living on campus. Much empirical research has shown that students who live on campus tend to get better integrated in the college community and as such, are more likely to graduate than those who don't.

How do I apply for residence?

Applications for on-campus housing are included in every application package.   A student must complete this form, and return it to the college with a $200.00 non-refundable residence deposit.    Spaces are limited, so we encourage you to apply as soon as possible once you've made your decision to attend EBC.

Is there a housing "contract"?

Yes.   Upon your acceptance to EBC a Residence Hall Agreement, and Waiver of Liability form will be sent to you.   Once you have completed this form, it acts as a contract to live on campus for two semesters (only one if you are applying for second semester).   Please be sure to read this contract carefully before signing it, as it is a binding contract.

Is there a deadline by which to submit my application?

There is no deadline to apply for housing. HOWEVER, getting your application in early enhances your likelihood of getting your preferred roommate and/or residence hall choice. 40 spaces are guaranteed for first year students.   Returning students must submit their applications prior to the spring deadline in order to qualify for discounts and incentives.

How can I be sure to get the roommate I want?

Students may request one other incoming student as his or her preferred roommate. In order for you both to be assigned together, each student needs to mutually prefer one another and both applications need to be on file at the time we make assignments. Virtually all roommate requests can be made provided space is available.

What if I change my preferences (hall choices, preferred roommate or anything else) after I send in my application?

As long as assignments have not yet been made, you may simply call, fax or email in your new request (please be sure to include all pertinent information) and we will do our best to accommodate you.

How are the rooms furnished?

While this varies somewhat by building, each room is equipped with a bed, wardrobe, desk with chair, and a desk light for each student.   All floors have laundry facilities. Lehman and Wideman Hall rooms are carpeted and Wideman, for an additional fee, can include a mini-fridge, microwave, and water-cooler.  Warder is not carpeted.

How are the rooms cleaned?

Students are responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of their individual rooms. Custodial staff are responsible for cleaning the community bathrooms on each floor and all other common areas, such as hallways and lounges. Similarly, maintenance staff is dedicated to maintain, repair and refurbish both individual and common areas in the halls.   It is expected that students will keep community areas clean, and free of personal belongings.

How do I get a meal plan?

All students living in Residence are required to be on the meal plan.   The cost is $1050/semester, and covers three meals a day, 5 days a week.   Students should note that no meals are provided on weekends, or during reading breaks.

What are the "rules" regarding visitors?

Warder and Wideman Halls have open dorm on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 1:00pm until 11:00pm.   Lehman Hall has open dorm everyday from 12:15pm until 11:00pm.

Where do I go to "check in" when I move in?

All students must go to the Common Lounge to check in.   The Residence Life staff will be there, and happy to get you set up in your new room.   If you are not checking in on the day that the Residence opens please contact the Associate Dean of Student Life so that arrangements can be made to meet you.

Can I bring a car?

Yes, but please know, like most other urban campuses, parking is relatively limited.   Parking is only permitted in the parking lot.   Any vehicle parked in the fire lanes or driveways may be towed at the owner's expense.  Students are responsible for their own vehicles.

When are residence room assignments made?

Rooms are assigned by the Associate Dean of Student Life and are usually done by mid-August. If you have any requests or questions, contact the Associate Dean of Student Life.
