Our new library catalogue is a work in progress.  Some materials are in the process of being added to the collection, yet are currently available on the shelves.  A number of book records may appear to be “messy” – we are working on editing every single title in our collection.  Please contact library if you have any questions regarding a specific title.  Thank you for your patience – Library Staff.

Reserve materials

Loan periods: 3 day, overnight, 2 hour (as per instructor request)

Often an instructor will place materials in our reserve room for student use.  Students may access these materials by asking at the front desk.  Restrictions have been placed on the borrowing period for all of these items by their instructor. Some materials may be borrowed for a limited time period and others are for in-library use only.  Students may check out a maximum of 2 Reserve items at any time.  Due to the high demand of reserve items, renewals are not permitted.  Late fees for reserves returned late are $1 per day per item or $1 per 2 hours for 2 hour loans.

Photocopying/Printing

To access the pre-paid photocopier and printer students need to set up an account with the library.  A pre-loaded $20 fee will enable students to print and copy with convenience.  This will enable students to use an access code to do their printing without worrying about having enough change each time they visit the library.  Students will be reminded when their pre-paid accounts are running low, so that money can be reloaded onto their account (much like a Tim Horton’s pre-paid card).

*Any monies remaining in the account at the end of the semester will be refunded to student, or applied to their next semester’s printing.  Similarly, any monies owing on the account will be billed to the student.

The library will not accept IOUs for printing except under special circumstances and with permission granted by the librarian.

The cost of printing or photocopying is $0.15 per printed page. Users are expected to pay for any ruined copies except for machine error; repairs should be handled by library staff only. The copyright law of Canada governs photocopies of copyrighted materials. The person using the copier is liable for any infringement.  A summary guideline for acceptable photocopying practice is available at the photocopier or below.

Copyright Information

Today many students photocopy articles and books and print online resources that are under copyright protection.  The Copyright Act is the legislation in Canada that sets out what you can and cannot do with other people’s copyright materials.  Access Copyright provides users with the means to copy from copyright protected materials while ensuring creators and publishers are fairly compensated.  A detailed sign of permissible copying practices can be found near the EBC Library photocopier.

Up to 10% of a printed published work may be copied, and the following may be copied even if they exceed 10% of the full work:

  • works whose copyright is owned by EBC
  • an entire newspaper article or page
  • an entire short story, play, poem, essay or article from a book or periodical issue containing other kinds of works
  • an entire single item of print music from a book or periodical issue containing other kinds of works
  • an entire entry from an encyclopedia, dictionary, annotated bibliography or similar reference work
  • an entire reproduction of an artistic work from a book or periodical issue containing other kinds of works
  • an entire chapter which is 20% or less of a book
