Student Life Services

Each of us is a complex blend of several components: intellect, will, emotions, physical experience and social interaction. Through the creative process God included each of these dynamics in all humans. Student Life exists to engage each of these components in ways that students can develop holistically, not overworking one at the expense of another.

"Inside each of us, because Christ lives there, are powers so strong, treasures so rich, possibilities so endless, that to command them all into action would change the history of the world." ~ Unknown

Academic learning at EBC takes place in the broader context of our community, and is thereby enriched.

The Student Life Department provides numerous services for students, including informal spiritual and personal counselling and referrals, basic career advice, and advocacy for students in a variety of venues. The Student Life Department provides an annual student agenda, which includes the EBC Student Handbook. The Handbook provides much of the information that students need to better understand and succeed at EBC. To get in contact with any of the Student Life Department, you may visit our offices off the lounge in the Sherk Education Centre.

The Student Life Department consists of the Dean of Students, Associate Dean of Students, Coordinator of Assessment and Student Programs, Chapel Co-ordinator, Food Services, and Campus Counsellors.

Residence

Residence halls provide an environment in which to grow, learn and change. Residence Life exists to provide an environment in which students will experience intentional community. Our desire is to see students live out, in a practical way, what it means to be a part of the body of Christ. Ultimately, we want to learn to love one another. In living together, the residence experience is a unique way for us to engage the components that make up who we are.

Commuter Students

The commuter experience is unique in that most commuter students are integrating their EBC studies into an already fast paced life. In this way students are able to learn what it means to live a balanced life, to connect when it is not always convenient, and to find community, even when it may seem hidden.

In order to meet the needs of commuter students we have provided block scheduling, a Blessing Centre, microwaves and fridge in the Campus Centre and some lounge space. Commuter students can also purchase meal tickets from the receptionist.

Student Leadership Team

The Student Leadership Team is comprised of the Student Council, and the Resident Advisors. The team has been given the responsibility of partnering with staff, faculty, and the board in the fulfillment of the mission of the College.

Early in the winter semester, students are invited to apply for positions on the Student Leadership Team. The discernment committee, which is comprised of the Student Life staff and student representatives, receive applications and interview the applicants. Input is received throughout the process from students, faculty, and staff. Once the discernment committee has reached a decision, the names of the students selected are presented to the student body for affirmation.

STUDENT COUNCIL

Student Council is responsible for representation of the Student Body. Primarily, the Student Council is concerned with advocacy, and is the voice of the students to administration. It ensures that student needs are being met, and that issues affecting students are raised and addressed. They are also responsible for distributing Student Council funds to the various committees. The Executive Board consists of a President, Vice-President, Administrative Officer and Finance Officer.

Student Council committees include: Encouragement, Fundraising, Missions Task Force, Newspaper (“The Voice”), Recreation, Social Concerns, and Spiritual Life.

The Student Council Office is located in the Sherk Education Centre off the Student Lounge.

RESIDENT ADVISORS

Resident Advisors are leaders who live in the residence halls. They are assigned a floor and are responsible to get to know their students, provide holistic programming and opportunities for learning and growing relationships. They provide early intervention in student issues, and seek to foster a safe environment for students to learn, grow, and change.

STUDENT TEAM LEADERS

These leaders are responsible for the student teams on which they serve. They help select team members, and design the programming. Currently, they run Infusion, a youth team, and Aspire, a Sunday morning team.

WORSHIP LEADERS

Worship leaders each have a day in which they help organize and lead worship during chapel. They each form a team at the beginning of the year from interested students who audition. Chapel runs on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 11:30am – 12:30pm during the semester. For more information on being a part of a worship team, contact the Dean of Students or worship leaders at the beginning of each semester.

MENTORSHIP PROGRAM LEADERS

MountainTop students entering their first year at EBC are assigned a mentor. Mentors are returning students seeking to encourage and disciple first-year students. The Mentorship Program Leader co-ordinates the program and acts as a resource for Mentors over the year.
