A Practical Gift Makes a Big Impact

– November 28, 2017

Imagine for a moment you’re in your kitchen. You’re getting ready to serve a huge meal to your guests when you realize your oven isn’t working properly. You feel the panic set in as you quickly try to repair it, and perhaps come up with another meal plan. Many of you might incur a repair bill, but eventually you would make the decision to buy a new oven. Now imagine if you just didn’t have the funds to buy one, and had to consistently deal with a temperamental oven.

That’s exactly what Tim Beatty, our Director of Food Services & Catering, faced on a regular basis. Typically, his kitchen is busy prepping, and brimmed with culinary, creative juices; however, for a while Tim’s kitchen was marked with anxiety…and sometimes even cold food.

You see, his oven was old and on the fritz. No longer reliable, the oven was finicky with its temperature; and Tim and his team felt the pressure to feed a crowd of hungry students who were missing home cooked meals. After painfully recognizing that it was beyond repair, the decision was made to replace the oven. A task easier said than done when as a college, we made a commitment not to spend money we didn’t have.

The gift of an oven

This is where you came in…

Through your generous support and prayers, you were able to provide Tim and his kitchen staff with a new oven. You put that smile on his face. You kept the EBC students fed with delicious, hot meals. We can’t thank you enough for your gifts. You truly blessed us and we’re so grateful for your support. Thank you!

#GivingTuesday

Today is #GivingTuesday, a global giving movement dedicated to giving back. You may have noticed the extra push on our social media channels today to promote the cause. You may have wondered why Emmanuel is getting involved this year.

That’s simple, we believe in preparing Christ followers who are committed to making a difference in their world. What better way to do that, then by joining a global giving movement! Did you know there are various ways you can give, and it’s not always with money (of course, that’s always appreciated). You can also support Emmanuel through volunteering, sharing your Emmanuel stories, and committing to pray for the college. Tim’s story is just one example of your giving in action.

The idea is to get involved. You really do make a difference! What will you do on #GivingTuesday?
