Mandatory Courses
A) Crisis Response and Relapse Prevention
This course is part of the continuing educational modules to fulfill the requirements of CACCF certification. This course will focus on the de-escalation of individuals with a significant mental health issue, crisis intervention including CISM skills development. Relapse prevention will also be covered in this module. Students will be encouraged to apply what they are learning by engaging in ongoing clinical supervision outside of this modular week.
B) Human Development
This course is part of the continuing educational modules to fulfill the requirements of CACCF certification. This course will focus on human development from infants to the elderly including healthy relationships, sexual orientation, sexual dysfunction and transgendering issues. Role theory, self-worth and self-esteem will also be covered from the perspective of addictions counselling. Students will be encouraged to apply what they are learning by engaging in ongoing clinical supervision outside of this modular week.
C) Grief, Case Management and Relational Violence
This course is part of the continuing educational modules to fulfill the requirements of CACCF certification. This course will focus on case management issues including clinical supervision with case presentations being an active part of this module, report writing, record keeping and treatment planning. It will also cover relational violence and grief from the perspective of addictions counselling. Students will be encouraged to apply what they are learning by engaging in ongoing clinical supervision outside of this modular week.
D) Pharmacology
This course is part of the continuing education modules to fulfill the requirements of CACCF certification and will focus entirely on pharmacology issues in addictions counselling as well as psychopathologies and personality disorders. Individuals will have a clear understanding of the difference between pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics as well as other medications frequently prescribed to treat a wide variety of psychopathologies frequently experienced in an addiction setting. Students will be encouraged to apply what they are learning by engaging in ongoing clinical supervision outside of this modular week.
E) Assessment, Screening and Use of Self
This course is part of the continuing educational modules to fulfill the requirements of CACCF certification. This course will focus on the signs and symptoms of use, the use of self in the counselling room, boundaries, eating disorders and disordered eating as well as adrenaline, video-gaming and pornography addictions. Students will be encouraged to apply what they are learning by engaging in ongoing clinical supervision outside of this modular week.
F) Ethics, Pornography and Sexual Addiction
This course is part of the continuing educational modules to fulfill the requirements of CACCF certification and will focus on ethics, pornography and sexual addictions, guilt, shame and forgiveness as well as child abuse. Clinical presentation of clients will also be an active and integral component of this course. Students will be encouraged to apply what they are learning by engaging in ongoing clinical supervision outside of this modular week.
