"The latter splendor of this house [tabernacle] shall be greater than the former, says the Lord of hosts; and in this place I will give prosperity, says the LORD of hosts." Haggai 2:9
At our virtual graduation ceremony in June, former Student Council President Zack Thornton reflected on the changes that took place on campus while he was president, the biggest being to the property, and the attending sadness. So many cherished memories are tied to the property and the chapel.
Zack directed us to Haggai 2:9 (above), reminding us all of a wonderful promise: the future glory can surpass the former! The bones of the library ARE those of the original tabernacle.
With those words in mind, we want to share with you a capital improvement project underway at Emmanuel. We are currently looking to redesign and renovate the Edna Pridham library so that it can once again be a centre of word and worship for our students. The library will remain a valuable resource while also becoming a wonderful new chapel space in the place where it all began. With prayer and vision, we believe the latter splendor can be greater than the former.
The Word and Worship project will take place in three phases:
Phase 1 – Creating a usable space: reorganizing, upgrading lighting, painting, building new storage, replacing the air conditioning unit, acquiring new seating and carrying out essential repairs and maintenance.
Phase 2 – Upgrading the technology for sound and streaming capacities, and electrical upgrades.
Phase 3 – Upgrading the flooring, additional renovations to improve the library experience and invest in online library databases.
The target for Phase 1 of the capital campaign is $25,000. Our goal is to have the new chapel space ready for our students in September. If you are interested in supporting this project, you can do so through our website, noting “Word and Worship” on the form, or by contacting Helen Oviedo at HOviedo@emmanuelbiblecollege.
